What’s The Jam?

Create a game that uses a ‘High-Score’ mechanic and has a summer feel to the theme… that’s it!

We want the high-score so each game we get to play has more of a challenge to it.

Usually for mini games like this you’d find a lot bunched into one main game, but we’re just looking for you to make 1, fun, amazing game! (or you can make lots of mini games and submit them all…. as long as they are high score based).

What does ’12 seconds of play time’ mean?

Think of it like this, your game is to throw a pie as far as possible, to do that you need to press the space bar as much as possible to build up speed and then hit enter to fling the pie, the distance that pie travels is the ‘High-Score’. Or you are a space pilot, shooting asteroids, the ‘High-Score’ could be the number of asteroids you destroy before losing all your lives, or it could be the amount of time you survive overall. And the great thing about having a ‘High-Score’ in your game is that people want to be the top of the table so they will replay your game over and over and over and over and over until they win or leave defeated, either way your game gets lots of play time.

What’s the restrictions?

Errr…. include a ‘High-Score’ mechanic and give it a summer feel.

How Long Do I Have?

This game jam will run from the 1st – 30th of July, so you have 30 days… You can make as many games as you like for this one, but they must all feature a ‘High-Score’ element.

Is it ranked?

It sure is, once the development time is up there’ll be 3 days of playing and voting happening, so you get to wind down after the jam, and then get wound up trying to top all of the amazing ‘High-Score’ tables.

Inspiration

Want some inspiration/an idea of what sort of games with ‘High-Scores’ might be?

Pretty much any game from the 80’s used high-scores, but have a look at these Point Blank 2, Wario Ware, Bishi Bashi Special,

As with all the good game jams the main goal is to test your skills, try something new, make a game and have some fun, so go have some fun. And wear sunglasses, flip-flops and a Hawaiian shirt entire time you are creating your game please, social media posts appreciated proving this.
